As all good things must end, it is almost time to say goodbye to the Windows 7 operating system (OS). As of January 14, 2020, Microsoft will cutoff support of the OS. With so many firms still using computers running Windows 7, a significant migration will need to take place in the coming year.  To learn more about this advisory, visit the Microsoft site: microsoft.com/en-us/windowsforbusiness/end-of-windows-7-support

Why Is This Migration Important for Law Firms?
When Microsoft ends support in January, the Windows 7 OS will no longer receive security patches and updates. This means any computer running on Windows 7 is vulnerable to attack or compromise, which will worsen with time.  As law firms have a duty to protect confidential client information and other sensitive data, it is essential that firm servers and individual workstations are protected from malicious threats.

What Should You Do?
Plan to begin your migration to Windows 10 now.  As moving systems and necessary applications to Windows 10 may take some adjustments, taking the steps to migrate now will allow for time to navigate the new systems and iron out any potential issues.  Any questions, contact the BMT Team.
