Microsoft is urging Windows users to install an emergency out-of-band security patch.  A recent security flaw has been found in some versions of Internet Explorer, allowing an attacker to run malicious code on an affected device.  You could be secretly infected by visiting a malicious web page or by being tricked into clicking on a link in an email.

Once the attacker successfully exploits the vulnerability, he/she could gain the same user rights as the current user.

What Should You Do?
As recommended previously, consider switching browsers. Regardless, if still using Internet Explorer, install the necessary patches using Windows Update (see below).  More than 7% of all browser users are running affected versions of Internet Explorer 9, 10 and 11, according to recent data. All supported versions of Windows are affected, including Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, as well as several Windows Server versions.

To access the Microsoft Security Advisory and required security updates, visit the advisory page: https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-US/security-guidance/advisory/CVE-2019-1367?=published%2Fadvisory.

If you are a BMT Managed Services client, we will be making necessary updates by installing these patches for you.  If you are not, please contact us to learn what you can do to ensure your systems are secure.
